Happy Martin Luther King Day!

Today is a great day because it is Martin Luther King Jr Day! Why, you might ask? It is a national holiday; one of which my male owner has off from teaching! So we get to spend all day with Dad! It was a great day! Not to mention that it is in memorial of a very great man!

Tomorrow....an even greater day!

The Bulldog endorsed Obama will be Inaugurated as our 44th President of the United States!

Why would this affect Bulldogs? Well.....for one this economy has got to be fixed! My owners have had to start buying the cheaper dog food for me and my brother Link! This is preposterous! Something must be done!

We Bulldogs are ready for change!

Bulldogs for Obama

I'm taking this time while my humans are busy watching the news to report that the bulldog breed has fully put its support behind Barack Obama for president.

We realized this easily enough when McCain and Palin supporters were not even smart enough to know the difference between a Pitbull and a Bulldog; therefore our endorsement had to go for the Obama/Biden ticket.

Remember to vote tomorrow and don't forget that the Bulldogs are for Barack!

Welcome to our new feline Kratos, the God of War

I'd like to welcome a new addition to our animal family, Kratos, hails from the MU Veterinary hospital where he had previously been a research cat for our friend Dr. Eberhardt. After the sad and untimely loss of Nero, Dr. Eberhardt was kind enough to let my mom and dad adopt Kratos (Mousetrap was his old research name....his roommate was Parcheesi).

Kratos was very scared by his new environment the first couple of days he was with us, and really scared of Link and I at first. We are pretty scared of gray cats in general because of Sora's superpowers, so we tend to keep our distance from gray cats. Soon Kratos learned that he enjoyed his new home and all of the things in it that he could play with and destroy. Balled up pieces of paper seem to be his favorite to chase. Link often tries to play this game with him, only resulting in a very mushy slobbery piece of paper that mom then throws away. But Kratos doesn't seem as scared of us and even licks us every once in a while....he doesn't like it when we lick back. I guess our tongues are way bigger than his.

Kratos and Sora are getting along now as well and we often are woke up by hearing them running up and down the stairs at night. Link and I are always on duty you see, so we must be constantly alert to any sounds of invaders so we can alert papa....the cats have caused several false alarms now and mom and dad really don't like false alarms at 2 in the morning.

Anyway, Dad says that Kratos' name means 'God of War' but so far I haven't seen any indication of this. In fact, he seems kind of sissy to me. Always happy and lounging on the floor waiting for mom or dad to pet him. Sometimes he and Sora fight, but I can never tell who wins because I do not understand the combat style of felines. It seems like way too much chasing and not enough hand to hand combat. Maybe dad will let me give him lessons in warfare so that we can be better prepared to protect our territory.

Anyway, that is the scoop on the new member of our family. I'm sure we will have photographic evidence of his existence soon.

Our Dear Nero

Yesterday, Tuesday, May 20th, we had to let our beloved Nero go. He had suffered from non-regenerative feline anemia for over 7 months now, and after many improvements and relapses, on Monday his blood count hit the lowest point since it had all started. We could have went though more treatments and blood transfusions, but knowing Nero's loving and adventurous spirit, we knew he would not want to live a life consisting of weekly trips to the vet and all of the poking and prodding that would come with it.

We took him home Monday and let him roam free in the yard that night and Tuesday morning.
He laid in the cool green grass while watching the birds and taking in all the joys of nature.
He slept on me Monday night, which meant so much to me, and then Tuesday right before it was time to leave for the hospital, he let me hold him as long as I wanted. Whether it was because he was too weak to want to move, or he simply wanted to be on my shoulder, I'll never know, but I like to think it was his way of giving me comfort.

Tuesday, in the early afternoon, we took him in to the Vet Hospital. We sat on a couch in a private room while I held Nero close in my lap as he peacefully went to sleep and took his final nap.

I don't think anyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting Nero, didn't love him. Even the students at the MU Vet Hospital became attached despite the short amount of time that they spent with him.

He was a special part of our family and we don't feel complete without him. He had a unique spirit and was always doing something to make sure he lived up to the destructive and eccentric Roman Emperor for whom he was named.

Nero, we will miss you and you will never be forgotten.
